The body move, the mind listens and something shifts

Dance Movement Therapy is a Jungian Approach to Healing

Not everything we experience can be expressed through words. Sometimes, our emotions emerge through movement, rhythm, gesture, and the space we occupy.

At Sauna Therapy, our Dance Movement Therapy Group explored the relationship between the body and mind, inviting participants to reconnect with themselves through creative expression, somatic awareness, and intentional movement.

Because movement isn’t always about performance. Sometimes, it’s about giving ourselves permission to feel, explore, and exist without judgment.

You don’t have to dance beautifully to discover something beautiful within yourself.

BEYOND TALK THERAPY

Sometimes, Healing Begins With Movement.

Our experiences do not exist only in thoughts and language. Stress, grief, trauma, and emotional distress can influence how we breathe, move, and experience our bodies.

At Sauna Therapy, we have explored the relationship between movement and psychological well-being through somatic, expressive, and mindfulness-based group experiences.

These programs invite participants to approach their internal experiences with curiosity, creativity, and compassionate awareness.

The goal is not physical performance. It is developing a more attentive and supportive relationship with yourself.

2026

PAST GROUP / PSYCHOTHERAPEUTIC YOGA

Psychotherapeutic Yoga & Somatic Group

MINDFULNESS SOMATIC AWARENESS GENTLE YOGA EMOTIONAL REGULATION

In 2026, Sauna Therapy developed a psychotherapeutic yoga and somatic group experience integrating gentle movement, breathwork, mindfulness, and psychological reflection.

The program approached yoga as an opportunity for self-awareness rather than a physical achievement. Participants were invited to notice sensations, identify emotional experiences, explore personal boundaries, and practice grounding through intentional movement.

The group incorporated concepts from trauma-informed care, somatic psychology, and mindfulness-based psychotherapy. Its emphasis was on choice, accessibility, and the relationship between emotional experience and bodily awareness.

Group themes included:

  • Breath and present-moment awareness
  • Grounding and nervous-system regulation
  • Emotional identification
  • Self-compassion and acceptance
  • Boundaries and bodily autonomy
  • Mind-body connection

This previous program reflects Sauna Therapy's commitment to exploring integrative approaches that bring psychotherapy and embodied experience together.

2025

PAST GROUP / EXPRESSIVE MOVEMENT

Dance Movement Therapy Group

EXPRESSIVE MOVEMENT CREATIVITY SELF-EXPRESSION CONNECTION

In 2025, Sauna Therapy offered a dance and movement-focused therapeutic group exploring the relationship between physical expression, emotion, and self-understanding.

Movement can communicate experiences that are difficult to describe through language alone. The group used creative movement as an opportunity to explore emotional expression, self-awareness, and connection with others.

Rather than emphasizing choreography or technique, the experience centered on personal exploration, individual choice, and authentic expression.

Participants did not need previous dance experience to engage with the therapeutic themes.

Group themes included:

  • Movement and emotional expression
  • Body awareness and self-image
  • Creativity and spontaneity
  • Nonverbal communication
  • Interpersonal connection
  • Personal identity and self-discovery

The program explored how creative movement may support psychological reflection and offer another avenue for meaningful expression.

THE SAUNA PHILOSOPHY

"The purpose is not to move beautifully. It is to discover what becomes possible when we allow ourselves to move freely."

WHY MOVEMENT MATTERS

The Psychology of Movement.

Movement-based therapeutic approaches can support psychological exploration in several ways.

01. Emotional Awareness

Notice the connection between physical sensations and emotional experiences.

02. Self-Regulation

Practice grounding, mindful breathing, and strategies for responding to distress.

03. Self-Expression

Explore experiences through creative, nonverbal forms of communication.

04. Body Awareness

Develop greater awareness of sensations, physical boundaries, and movement.

05. Connection

Explore interpersonal experiences and a sense of belonging within a supportive group.

06. Self-Compassion

Practice curiosity and acceptance rather than performance or self-judgment.

TWO PATHWAYS TO EXPLORATION

Dance or Yoga?

Both practices offer opportunities to explore the relationship between psychological experiences and the body, but their methods can differ.

Psychotherapeutic Yoga

Often emphasizes intentional movement, breath awareness, grounding, and mindfulness. It can be adapted to support emotional regulation and present-moment attention.

Dance & Expressive Movement

Often emphasizes creativity, spontaneous movement, nonverbal expression, and interpersonal exploration. It offers opportunities to examine the emotional meaning of movement.

Neither requires previous experience or artistic ability. Activities should be adapted to individual needs and physical capabilities.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Do I need dance or yoga experience?

No. Movement-based therapeutic activities can be adapted for different experience levels and abilities. The focus is on awareness, not performance.

Can movement-based therapy help with trauma?

Somatic and movement-based interventions may complement trauma-focused psychotherapy by supporting grounding, bodily awareness, and emotional regulation. Suitability depends on individual needs and clinician training.

Are these groups currently available?
